Getting Ready for 2010

Well it's 2010 and the journey continues! It's time to head back to South Africa but I need your help. For the first time since coming to OneHope (Book of Hope) eight years ago my support has gone below the level that allows me to travel.

To be able to get back I needed to add $1500 in monthly support.The response has been great but i still need help!!!

christmas eve service

one of the fuller family traditions is a family get-together that takes place on christmas eve. it's happened for as long as i can remember and long before i was born. we eat, catch up, and have grandma's fruit cookies and it's always a nice time.

but times are changing. cousins are getting married and babies are being born. it's exciting to see families growing but it means it's time for traditions to move to a new night.

and so tonight it's christmas eve and there is a new plan. the fuller's are going to christmas eve service! i know for most of you this is something you have done before, but for me it is literally the first christmas eve service i've ever attended. i'm excited and expecting something magical to happen. hope you're on your game pastor : )

it just seems a little confusing...

upon checking into a hotel one day i was confronted with a very confusing message.

...ash tray...no smoking sign....can't we just make up our minds

there are many signs we pass in life. some are directional, some informational, some warnings.

think about all the signs you pass as you drive down a highway. sometimes all the signs we have here in the USA can be overwhelming when i get back. i find myself trying to read and drive and talk on the phone all at the same time!

this past year i found a sign in SA that makes me smile every time i see it. it is helpful and sad all at the same time and i'm very glad that i have never found myself in the predicament.

it's not so much the warning but the little picture in the bottom left hand side that makes me laugh.

lets all have a moment of silence for the little guy under the car. he was a good little penguin.

some days the most glamorous thing i get to do is figure out which receipt goes where and working on getting my spreadsheets to balance. not my idea of fun.

so to make "money" days a bit more manageable i usually dip into my amazing stash! thanks to everyone who has sent dr. pepper and/or carried dr. pepper to me. you are a part of making my life yummy again!

i do a lot of driving here is SA and it's always a journey.

one thing that's nice is when it's time to fill up you don't even have to get out of the car! that's right, full service all the time. tons of great attendants ready to top off the tank...wash the windshield....check the oil.....add some air to the tires....you name it!

so this winter as you freeze pumpin' that fuel up there in the midwest think of me...chillin in my car...with a really clean windshield (they are REALLY good at gettin' all those bugs!)

i feel like i'm always writing about how fast time moves and how it can slip by so easily....and alas it has happened again. almost 3 months since my last post. i'm sorry to disappoint all 4 of you that read my blog :  )

today i'm sitting in a meeting with OneHope coordinators from all over southern Africa. Its our bi-annual meeting to discuss what has happened this past year and how we can reach out to more kid next year. there are so mnay ideas, always new challenges, and of course the reward of knowing that more and more kids are hearing about GOD'S LOVE. here's to 2010!

This has nothing to do with the meeting i'm in but it makes me pretty happy. meet my new label maker.

tonight was "American" night at my house...bekah and i have been hanging out with some real mokopanians and decided to have them all over...so for a true taste of America we had taco night! it muy bueno to teach these south africans how to make a taco (and i think they really liked them)

after dinner there was a game drive, canoe tipping, game playing, rugby watching and of course the ever important color test taking.

way too much yellow in the room :  )

it's friday...where did the week go. i think that someone drugs me on monday and i wake up on thursday and then i have this agonizing feeling that i have gotten nothing done....the mountain just continues to grow...

my throat is still killing me...i'm thinking that the meds that doc gave me are not working...the only thing that seems to help is my advil but i'm down to 3 pills so i've been avoiding taking it. i'm waiting till i'm so hungery i can't take it any more. after that who knows...

and my house is cold again. not sure what happened...flip flops one day and my coat the next. right now i'm trying to keep warm with my little heater
